High Blood Pressure

High Blood PressureHigh blood pressure (Hypertension) is a common condition in which the long-term force of the blood against your artery walls is high enough that it may eventually cause health problems, such as heart disease.

High blood pressure needs to be taken seriously. It is important to consult with your doctor about treatment.

A relaxing massage can help relieve stress and is also a useful addition to doctor prescribed treatment.

Take-the-Pressure-Off Massage Blend

20 drops marjoram essential oil

10 drops geranium or ylang ylang essential oil

10 drops mandarin, tangerine, or wild orange essential oil

5 drops lavender essential oil

In a 1/6 oz. (5 mL) glass dropper bottle, combine the essential oils.
Shake to blend.

Bath: Fill tub with warm water. Meanwhile, in a small non-reactive bowl, combine 1 tsp. (5 mL) milk and 4 to 6 drops Take-The-Pressure-Off Massage Blend. Add to water and agitate to disperse, and then soak for 20 minutes, massaging any floating droplets of oil into your skin. Limit use to twice a week only.

Massage: In a small non-reactive bowl, combine 6 drops Take-The-Pressure-off Massage Blend and 2 tsp. (10 mL) grapeseed or sweet almond oil. Mix well and massage over your body.

Variation: For a more potent treatment, substitute passion flower-infused oil for grapeseed or sweet almond oil. Passion flower oil offers strong relaxant properties.

Tip: If you are using a blend around bath/shower time, you can enhance the benefit by combining the essential oils with a carrier oil and rub it into your skin before getting into the shower or bath. This enables the essential oils to be absorbed and work their way into the bloodstream. The heat of the water encourages the essential oil vapors to rise, allowing you to inhale the aromas more easily and thus creating a dual application.

Tip: Do not add essential oils to the tub while the water is running, as some of the precious essences may evaporate, depriving you of the benefits.

Tip: If you prefer, substitute an equal quantity of liquid castile soap for the milk called for in any bath recipe.
