  • STRETCHING

There is a saying that you are as young as your spine is flexible. I’m probably butchering the saying, but I have been thinking about it more and more lately. As I have said before, I believe that losing weight is about common sense approach to living healthy. We have the tools in all of us it’s about reconciling all the information and putting together a plan that works. Anyways, I have been feeling that as I have been losing weight, running, and building muscle that I’ve also been getting a little stiff. So I in response, I’ve started a new stretching routine.

Every morning I wake up go to my spare bedroom and stretch. I like to do this before I eat anything or have coffee. I find that I am really stiff in the morning so the stretches are harder to perform. Yet, I do what I can and find that when I’m done I feel energized and relaxed. I then have my breakfast and I’m off to workout. I get to the gym a little earlier to stretch my legs especially my knees. I find that this is a trouble area and needs special attention. At the end of my workout, I do some more stretching a great place is in the sauna. I find the heat really helps me.

Before I go to bed, I go back to the spare bedroom and do some more stretching. It takes me about twenty minutes when I lay down to sleep I feel a heightened sense of relaxation. It has been about 5 days since starting this and the results are pretty fast. I highly recommend incorporating this into your daily life. I know for myself I want to avoid being stiff and inflexible as I get older. I will post either a link or detailed stretches for you.
Stay tuned, get excited, and keep informed

  • Great News I hit 25lbs!!!!!

Posted on March 27th, 2009 admin 1 comment

Today I hit the 25lb mark, and I couldn’t be more excited about this goal. When I started, I was 240lbs know I’m 215 and I feel great.  I also have been altering my running. I have been increasing my increments every 6 minutes to keep my heart rate rising. I find that it has improved my stamina and give me a real high. I than run once a week at a steady rate for a long period of time. My pace has quickened and my miles are building. It’s funny four months ago I would be writing about the best sports bars and beer. How things have changed hahaha

  • Take the Tools and Reach Your Goals

Did you know that to loose one pound you have to burn 3500 extra calories. I heard that and thought how the hell am I going to do it. The number seems so high. Then I broke it down. I am a 31 year old male. I weigh 240lbs so on average I burn 2500 calories a day doing my normal routine. So if I could cut my calories down to 1800 and then burn off say 800 at the gym. WHOW I could loose a pound almost every two days. It’s funny now to look at this and think that as simple as it sounds it’s working. I have lost 26lbs and still going. Now I don’t count or measure every meal. Who really has the time? I just choose the low fat options, and workout with the goal of 800 calories, and its working.

Like all things a good plan needs to be well thought out and executed. I realized that if there was an easier way to achieve my goal all the better. So in researching weight loss, I discovered some interesting things. A pound of muscle will burn an extra 50 calories a day. Okay, so I mixed in weight lifting into my workout routine. I work out different areas of my body during the weak. I mix areas that are opposite so that I don’t overwork one area. The great benefit to this is that I’ve developed muscles, toned and look better than I have ever.

As for my diet, I sort of stick to a rule that yogi’s use. I try and eat food as close as possible to it’s natural state. Fruit, salads, and vegetables are vital to this. If you think about the foods that go against this than fried, highly processed foods are out. This has been the diet that has made me feel better and stronger than ever before in my life. One last thing no alcohol, I have been on the wagon since starting this path to a healthier life. This one change is absolutely the most important decision in my goals. Alcohol is high in sugar, lowers your metabolism, and deprives you of restful sleep. Dump the booze if you want to loose weight.

Summer Weight Loss: Ideas For Quick Weight Loss

    By Greg McKenzie

So summer is almost here, yet your summer fat loss plan has barely even started. You were planning to go to the pool or beach to get a great tan. At the moment though, it seems unlikely that you will be removing your shirt in the near future. Your body has hung onto those extra winter pounds for a little too long now. You might have planned a long fitness routine to drop the weight in weeks, but no one has the time for this. This will provide tips that will give you an easy summer program to drop the weight quick.

    Quick Weight Loss Summer plan

Let us look at five ways that will melt that extra fat so you can enjoy some time in the sun this summer and not be turning down all of the pool party invitations that you will be getting. To get the results you want, it’s not going to be easy; you are going to need a little bit of discipline. Just keep in mind that it is only going to last for a few weeks.

The first four tips will focus on diet as this is the most important component of any fat loss program. Adding the fifth tip provides an enhanced effect to help you lose your weight fast. Scientific research has proven it is the fastest way to lose fat. Using these ideas, people have lost between 7 and 15 pounds in 3 weeks. Let’s begin:

    1) Cut the starches.

As your body does not need a lot of energy right now, drop items like rice and potatoes which are full of energy. Removing starches from your diet will force your body to burn extra body fat. This is an important step before starting tip number 5.

    2) Remove all forms of sugar from your daily intake.

Too much sugar is the primary reason you have extra fat so regulating your blood sugar will be the first priority. Your goal is to establish a constant supply of energy through the day and that will eliminate any sugar highs. If you eat the right foods they will release energy slowly into the bloodstream so that you have that “full” feeling for the whole day, not just for an hour after you eat.

    3) Include protein in every meal.

Protein slows down digestion and, with it, the release of sugar into your blood stream. It also causes your body burn more energy during the digestion process since it requires so much energy to digest.

    4) Have six meals a day.

The act of eating burns calories, and the extra meals balance your blood sugar out over the day.

    5) Participate in High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)

Exercise is a significant factor when you want to lose excess weight. One big advantage to using Interval Training is that it allows you to burn fat long after the exercise is over - up to 40 hours longer, in fact. In addition it works well with the fat loss tips that have been mentioned above to truly speed up your fat loss. You will need to develop habits that are specific for your fat loss plan.

  • Moving the stone!!!

Posted on March 25th, 2009 admin 1 comment

Getting the ball rolling to achieve weight loss is challenging. When I decided to loose weight, I made the conscious decision that to begin every action had to be examined. What do I mean? I mean that I had to look at my breakfast and see if it would help or hinder my goal. I had to look at snacks, my sleep, and my daily routine. The next step was to alter each choice to make it work for me to loose weight. I am choosing the low calorie foods, fresh fruit, and lean proteins. I am working out five days a week and toning my abs and legs, parts that I hate to work on. I am making sure that I get at least 8 hours of sleep, and more importantly trying to go to sleep and wake at the same time every day.

As I have made small progress, each day builds and becomes easier. It becomes routine to infuse my life with the healthy habits that are the bedrock of my weight loss. It really is like moving a large stone, at first it takes lots of energy, but as the stone moves it becomes more and more easy. So work as I am and keep making those strides a healthy life is there waiting for you.

A little more than two months ago, I was in the worst shape of my life. I had gained forty pounds and was not working out or living healthy. My girlfriend and I were regulars at the local sports bars, and were living in denial about the affects on us physically. You may know the feeling of starting Read the rest of this entry »
